Internship Series, Part 1: Skirts

As spring arrives, a dreaded question looms for every young person - what to do for the summer? For those who choose the job route, especially women, a more pressing question is felt - one that centers around fashion, of course. If you are interning somewhere, what can you wear? How can you look professional but not old or trendy without seeming too young? To trend or not to trend: the conundrum.

How can you look presentable in a working atmosphere without spending everything you'll earn by August?

Based on personal experience, I know that most of my summer clothing is clearly inappropriate - denim miniskirts are definitely not for the office! You don't want to be the one pulling down a too-tight, too-short skirt as you walk by the reception desk every morning...so here are some options to keep a fresh, summery, and still fashionable look that will impress everyone from your boss and your co-workers at work during the day to your friends for drinks at night!

1. CLASSIC: Trina Turk 'Barrett' Skirt ($186) - Before you protest, yes, I know it's tweed! But this skirt is far from old or dowdy in any sort of way. The multicolored, sparkly threads woven throughout the garment and the shiny gold buttons on the waist ensure its dominance in any room. Pair with a brightly colored, sheer blouse and black heels to ground the look.

No matter what you wear, always err on the side of caution, no too-short hemlines! Also: always keep your personality, never wear anything you feel uncomfortable in!

This drapy silk skirt with a techno print will elevate any outfit - go classic, go trendy, you cannot do anything wrong. My personal choice? With a strong black or white blazer and strappy black heels.
